"The pearl of the Baltic Sea - Bornholm - is the home of my inspiration, my stroke and my special light. Summer after summer, I have been sitting on the rocks, the grass, by the sea, in the sand...but most of all in my studio in Gudhjem. Now my studio is in New York – but I still paint life stories, relations and moods in the light of the sun, the moon and the stars… and the city. Human figures move in and out of my canvasses... large, small, young and old - everyone tells the stories and is a part of the Nordic senses and my Danish culture. Today I mostly paint commissioned works. I can translate your impressions, moods and stories into vibrating lines and poetic brushstrokes – reflecting your life as it’s lived and has been lived…
Do you want the story of your life captured in a painting? I can be the artist to create your family heirloom..." Hanne Støvring, Artist "Every single painting expresses an atmosphere with its own register and its own color scheme, which makes them very different from each other … they are full of life stories of some sense – and thus what the observer sees in the motifs are mirrored in everyone's fantasy and life experiences..."
Mikkel Nørgaard, Teaching Assistant Professor "Washes of blues and greens swim across the canvas. Human forms are anonymous in their features, yet universal in their emotions. In one painting, sunshine and misty clouds seem to co-exist. In another, bold reds and yellows pulse with the energy of urban life.”
Tova Brandt, Curator of Museum of Danish America "Hanne Støvring's work is a celebration of the mysteries of our natural world. Hanne stirs figurative elements into a melting pot of color to express stories and in doing so she triggers emotions mere words could not..."

Hanne Støvring (f. 1978, Denmark)
Artist & Master of Art history (Aarhus University 2005) Currently lives and works in New York City "Hanne Støvring belongs to the young generation of painters of Bornholm. The small coastal town Gudhjem on the faraway island Bornholm in the Baltic Sea has been the home of her studio in most of her life. She catches the invisible moods and transforms the impressions to lyrical, light-filled sceneries full of sensations. Her paintings are really like a kind of romantic dream pictures – a piece of nature poetry in wonderful turquoise and icy blue, white, pale yellow and bluish green, wine red, purple and soft violet and greyish green nuances where the shapes are only vaguely visible in the dusk taking on the colors of the night sky of the summer. The titles of the paintings suggest that she focuses on human life and solidarity and nature moods. She tells stories of compassion and passion, caresses, separation, awakening and dreams, hopes and miracles…" Allis Helleland, former director of the National Gallery of Denmark More information about Hanne Støvring and full list of exhibitions and press reviews - Visit www.hs-art.dk
